The last Spider-Man film was a huge success at the box office, but was hardly well received by film critics and fans alike.
The main point of concern was its bloated plot – which tried to cram three villains, a love triangle and bizarre dance sequences into one film. However, director Sam Raimi is back on board for 'Spider-Man 4' – as are Tobey Maguire and Kristen Dunst – and he’s promised a more streamlined plot this time.
So what can we expect from 'Spider-Man 4'?
It's still unclear whether Dylan Baker (who has played Dr Curt Connors in the second
and third movie) will finally get transformed into The Lizard, but it long been rumoured that The Vulture will be Spidey's arch nemesis. But it does seem certain that the Black Cat will make an appearance.
Felicia Hardy is a cat burglar who can grant bad luck to anyone who crosses her path. Reports suggest that in the film version, she falls in love with Parker during visits to The Daily Bugle where her father works, only to discover his secret identity.
Rachel McAdams has dismissed claims that she will be playing The Black Cat, but it's now been reported that Julia Stiles has since auditioned for the part.
Another possible plot spoiler is that Peter Parker and Mary Jane have a son. By the time the new film comes out there will have been a four-year gap – so have Park and Mary Jane started a family?
It all comes from a casting call looking for a two-year-old boy with red hair to star in the new movie. As Mary-Jane is a famous red-head we've done the maths and jumped to the conclusion that Spider-Man is going the way of Superman Returns and introducing a super child. Because it worked so well with that film right?
Of course it could also mean that the child is used in a flashback sequence to introduce us to Cletus Kasady – a red haired serial killer who goes on to be the super villain Carnage.
Oh, it's getting too confusing.
Are you excited about 'Spider-Man 4'? What do you think the plot should be, and who do you think should be the villain?
